Managing 50 Microbiologists and Microbiology staff Plans, assigns, and directs the laboratory production work and ensures adequate staffing availability for validation work-as needed by the TM and DQPS in the laboratory.  Serves as liaison with other functional local and corporate stakeholders. Mentors and supports direct reports regarding responsibilities and functions, ensuring they receive training in supervisory skill development.  Identifies and implements supervisory and production training programs as necessary. Provides assistance as a liaison for defining, coordinating, and monitoring quality assurance programs.  In absence of the Technical Manager, the PLM supervises activities of the DQPS. During that time when the TM is not available, the PLM ensures quality control and compliance procedures are followed, that QC reports are up to date, and that the laboratory is prepared for a Quality inspection Oversees staffing of all personnel in the laboratory.  Effectively maintains a high-performing team by interviewing, hiring, training and providing staff development through performance evaluation, coaching and corrective counseling. Identifies future needs in terms of staff, equipment, and facilities.  Submits appropriate documentation for procurement of such. Reviews test performance, drives process and project management, and prepares and submits required reports to meet established deadlines. Manages test database.  Ensures departmental standard operating procedures and database accurately reflects the current process. Coordinates new implementation activities, working in conjunction with the TM, Medical Director and Quality Assurance, as it relates to operations and actively participates on subspecialty committees in conjunction with the TM, corporate committees, and business unit committees as needed. Provides guidance on annual budget and manages department costs and resources to adhere to budget. Resolves production problems through interaction with clients via phone calls or other means of communication.
