Senior Food Scientist

Details: This position is a senior level technical position performing principal and applied research.  The scientist will plan and execute new product and technology development as well as improvements to existing products and processes within the Food Group, including cost reduction projects and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manufacturing costs, improve quality, and/or enhance customer service.  The scientist will coordinate the efforts of project team members, including food scientists, technologists, technicians, and project team members outside R&D, in the development of new products and processes.  Other main duties of this position to include:  identifying known and emerging technologies outside of the J.R. Simplot Company, assessing and integrating them into the company’s current and future products and processes and fully investigating, developing, and presenting alternatives for implementation; facilitating commercialization of prototypes from bench to factory scale; implementing new products in the plant and working with the plant management; interacting with customers regarding product quality issues or quality improvement initiatives; reviewing and approving recipes, processes, and labels used to ensure compliance with all regulatory labeling requirements; interfacing with sales and marketing in order to foster solid technical relationships with the company’s potential customers.  The successful candidate will possess the following traits:  good business acumen and ability to understand the link of product/process and quality to commercial value in the business; strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent analytical and problem solving skills; strong leadership skills and the ability to interact effectively with various functions, customers, and levels of experience; strong project management capability in analytical and process development areas.
